The last few weeks have been warm and dry in the Pacific Northwest and our snowpack and snow quality has taken a big hit. But even crunchy refreeze can't stop our stoke and we found some icy backcountry turns near Steven's Pass. We caught a beautiful sunset right before Jonathan's toe pins failed and his ski went hurdling down the mountain in cartoonish fashion. It finally stopped when it smoked into a tree. After about 20 minutes of bushwacking, he was able to recover the dented ski. We were laughing all the way down to the car.
The SQAWK team is looking forward to the chance of snow this upcoming week and some hopefully less crunchy touring in the near future.
