Jacob "Shaggy" Anderson signed a team rider extension today! Glad to have him continue with the SQAWK team.
SQAWK’s first and longest standing team rider, Jake “Shaggy” Anderson joined the team in March 2020. He was singularly responsible for all research and development feedback for all the boards produced out of the original SQAWK factory at 844 Riverside Ave, Santa Cruz. Jake provided feedback on a variety of shapes and designs but connected best with SQAWK R&D Board 9# and this teal-green R&D board would quickly become synonymous with his surfing.
By the time the factory moved in the of June 2021, Jake had switched to almost exclusively surfing Board 9# and he christened it “Greenie”. The octopus (SQAWKtopus) decal adorning the front of the board became Jake's signature emblem and was embroidered into his team rider gear.
Board 9# or “Greenie” (dims 8’6” x 22” x 3”) was originally imagined as an everyday down the line cruiser but Jake pushed the limit of this cruiser design taking it into overhead, double overhead and triple overhead surf.
One such notable occasion was Jake’s iconic wave at Drainpipe’s during the massive south swell in the summer of 2022.
When Board 9# was damaged beyond repair the SQAWKtopus decal was harvested and presented to Jake in appreciation of his time dedicated to the SQAWK team.
As a multisport athlete Jake continues to represent SQAWK and provide R&D feedback in both surf and on the mountain slopes.
